Network 49 co-sponsored a debate between incumbent Alderman Joe Moore and challenger (and Network 49 member) Maria Hadden, held in the auditorium of Sullivan HS. Debate co-sponsors included the Democratic Party of the 49th Ward, Jane Addams Senior Caucus, League of Women Voters of Chicago, Protect RP, and Rise 49. The event moderator was provided courtesy of the League of Women Voters of Evanston

Evidencing strong interest in the election, the debate attracted more than 650 neighbors, many of them students at Sullivan HS. Questions were solicited from the audience, sorted and screened by student assistants trained by the moderator, then presented by the moderator to the candidates. Students also served as timekeepers and ushers.

The entire debate was captured live by CAN-TV and also a Facebook live video. Links to the videos are available below.

Please take a moment and consider joining Network 49. The reason the debate even happened was because residents organized to give voice to the issues we care about: quality schools, safe neighborhoods for all, and development that puts community benefits first. We organized this event to give you and people like you a chance to speak truth to power and make sure that politics works for you, not over you.

Our organization is 100% volunteer-led and depends on members’ active participation and modest annual dues to stage programs like these. Please take a moment and join today.
